After suffering for many years from tuberculosis Polish-born French composer Frederick Chopin dies in Paris on October 17, 1849. He is best known for his piano compositions including 55 mazurkas, 4 scherzos, 13 polonaises, 4 ballads, 24 preludes, 27 ┼╜tudes, and 19 nocturnes.
